"I love to help people and I love to look at houses. Since I'm a frugal person, I especially like working at The Buyer's Agent where I can help my clients find their home and help them save some money in the process."
Growing up on a small farm in Burnsville, NC, I was fortunate to have a family that taught me a strong work ethic. If you are going to do something–give it 110% and give the task at hand your full attention. I believe in that same philosophy today. I listen to my clients and am committed to finding my clients the property they are searching for. Finding the right home is usually the most important financial decision of a person’s life; and helping my clients find that home is a responsibility I take seriously. My job is to educate my clients on all aspects of purchasing a home and helping reduce the stress and anxiety often associated with a home purchase. My passion for my work was recognized by being named "Rookie of the Year" and receiving the "Client Service Award" during my first two years in real estate.
I have lived in Florida, Washington DC, Maryland, and Charlotte, North Carolina. But no place is as wonderful as the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina. After serving in the United States Navy for four years, my husband and I decided to settle in the Asheville area. I attended nursing school and worked at a local hospital and nursing homes for several years before changing careers and becoming a real estate agent. I’ve always been exposed to the residential building industry. My father was a vocational teacher and he and his students built several homes in Yancey County. I always tagged along to help out in the summer. Over the years, my husband and I have built a few homes together and understand the hard-work and anxiety that comes with building a home. My husband is a captain on the Asheville Police Department where he strives to keep Asheville a wonderful place to live and raise a family. We live in Weaverville with our two boys. My children attend the North Buncombe schools. I enjoy all the outdoor activities the area offers. You can find me playing basketball or tennis with my family or fishing for trout in one of the local rivers. I’m an avid walker--walking 4-5 miles a day in my neighborhood or hiking one of the local trails.
I look forward to helping you find your dream home here in the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina!

Thank you Melinda Splain, our Buyer’s Agent, for making the journey fun instead of tense, uncomplicated instead of daunting. And especially for never giving up on us to find that very special place we call home.

We have moved 4 times in the last 10 years and realtors we have dealt with (in various states) talk about service, but Melinda Splain and Judy Cattanach actually deliver it--in spades. We were truly impressed with the level of excellent service we received. At every step of the way Melinda and Judy were there, with insight and wise council, with energy and warmth, consistent and timely follow-through, helping us to make the right choices. The Buyer's Agent is now the “gold standard” as far as we are concerned.
When Melinda met us at the home for one last time before making an offer, she had done her homework. Because of her knowledge about comps in the area and home values, she was able to negotiate an extremely good price for us.
It is rare to find people who are so good at what they do that you want to keep doing business with them over and over. We cannot adequately express how wonderful and competent Melinda and Judy were in bringing the transaction to a close. Thank you Melinda, Judy, and The Buyer's Agent.
